CHICAGO, IL—May 8, 2025 (James Street Media Services)—Anacostia Rail Holdings (ARH) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mark Nuchurch as Manager of Safety and Compliance. This is a new role and title at Anacostia. Nuchurch’s 29 years of experience in the railroad industry includes positions in operations, training, and safety.

“Mark is a railroad professional. His extensive mainline operating experience, along with seven years as intermodal safety manager with CSX, truly showcases his deep expertise and commitment to safety,” says Herman E. Crosson, ARH Chief Safety and Compliance Officer. “I’m confident he will bring valuable insights and innovative solutions to our team. Mark’s skillset and leadership will make an immediate and meaningful impact on Anacostia’s operations.”

Nuchurch began his career as a conductor and locomotive engineer before spending 19 years as a manager in different capacities. He served as a Trainmaster in the Bronx, New York and Chicago, and he was the program manager for CSX’s engineer training and certification program. Recently he was Manager of Safety and Operating Practices for CSX Intermodal Terminals.

He will support Anacostia’s ongoing programs to meet goals for safety, occupational health, and security. These programs include developing safety action plans, maintaining regulatory compliance, managing training and education standards, and continuously integrating safety into all operations.

A former sergeant in the U.S. Army, Nuchurch credits that experience with preparing him for his successful career in railroading.

“Early on I learned that it’s important to be prepared for change, and to be able to deal with issues and solve problems as they occur,” Nuchurch says. “With that foundation I look forward to helping keep all our railroads as safe as they can be.”
